Pye Green Academy provides a friendly and caring community within which children and adults work hard, have fun, and are able to fulfil their potential.
We are a school that has chosen to become an academy, a member of the University of Wolverhampton Multi-Academy Trust (UWMAT). Pye Green Academy is proud of its past, its reputation, its location, and the community in which it stands.
Our school is a place where we all want to be, where mutual respect, a zest for life, and a desire to learn all come together.
Visitors to our school often comment on the friendly and happy environment. We believe that we know every child as an individual, and place great importance on the establishment of strong and positive relationships with parents and carers. We look forward to meeting you, and welcoming you and your child into our school.
At Pye Green our aim is to teach every child to read. Reading changes everything!
Children who read a lot do well at school – whatever their background.
Above all, we want children in our school to become enthusiastic, independent and reflective readers. Essentially, we want children to enjoy reading.
Our children are initially taught the skills of reading through the Read Write Inc. phonics programme developed by Ruth Miskin. We then build on this to ensure that our children, across school, are taught to read with fluency, accuracy and understanding through a variety of discreet and cross-curricular learning opportunities.
In order for our children to fulfil their potential in reading we need as much parental support as possible and our aim is for school and home to work together to promote a love of books.
Everyone can do maths.
Our vision is for every child to enjoy and succeed in mathematics.
Maths should be an exciting adventure that everyone can enjoy, value and master!
At Pye Green Academy, our maths curriculum is designed to provide children with the opportunity to expand upon and develop their mental maths skills, and prepare them for the wide variety of problem-solving opportunities that they will encounter in their lives.
Our vision is to:
Foster positive attitudes, fascination and excitement of discovery through the teaching and learning of mathematical concepts.
Develop a ‘can do’ attitude in our children, especially when problem solving
Broaden children’s knowledge and understanding of how mathematics is used in the wider world by making rich and varied real life connections.
Enable our pupils to confidently reason about their mathematics, using a suitable range of mathematical language, recognising its importance for communication and deep thinking.
At Pye Green Academy we aim to instil a passion for PE and sports to ensure that every child has the opportunity to be the best they can in their PE lessons, sport and active playtimes.
Through physical education and sport we aim to teach our pupils new skills and show them how to improve in a fun, safe and stimulating environment. By providing a wide variety of opportunities both in school and off site, our pupils will become healthy, confident and active young people who are ready for the next stage of their lives.
We strive to give children the opportunity to compete internally, and with other schools to instil values of determination, respect, friendship, courage, equality and inspiration.
In 2018 we received the Sainsbury’s GOLD Sports Mark Award in recognition of the sports provision we offer at Pye Green Academy.
Children at Pye Green Academy are given the opportunity to share their ideas, thoughts and views about the school, ensuring their opinions are heard and valued. This builds on our nurturing ethos and innovative curriculum, giving every child the opportunity to shine and have a sense of belonging and personal achievement.
Our School Council is elected by their peers and the team focus on raising money for school projects or charities and sharing ideas on how to enhance the school environment.
The health and wellbeing of our children is paramount and is central to everything we do, promoting self-belief and building resilience to prepare for the world they live in. They are actively encouraged to approach their learning with Building Learning Power (BLP) skills helping children to help themselves become better learners, developing their learning habits and preparing them for a lifetime of learning.
